About acupuncture
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a practice that began in China more than two thousand years ago. Very fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points on the body. In traditional theory these points lie along channels, or meridians, through which the body’s vital energy (qi) flows.
What does “classical, pulse-based” acupuncture mean?
In the classical approach followed at our clinic, the practitioner reads your pulse carefully before choosing where to treat. Treatment is then usually given at a single point, rather than with many needles.
Your treatment
How many needles will be used?
Usually just one. Occasionally two may be used.
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are much finer than the needles used for injections. Most people feel only a brief prick or a mild, dull sensation. Tell the practitioner straight away if anything feels uncomfortable.
Are the needles clean and safe?
Yes. We use sterile, individually packed, disposable needles. Each needle is used once only.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the person and on the concern they come with. The practitioner will discuss a plan with you after your first assessment, and review it as you go.
Do you see children?
Yes, we see children as well as adults. A parent or guardian should come with any child.
